China becomes the world's largest garment producer and exporter Analysis of the export status of China's garment industry in 2020

Since China's accession to WTO, textile and garment has become one of the important components of China's export commodities. In the past ten years, with the gradual abolition of the export quota system of the industry, China's garment textile and garment exports have a more relaxed external environment. Favorable external environmental factors provide the most basic conditions for the international development of China's garment industry. On this basis, by virtue of China's advantages in labor costs and raw material supply, the international competitiveness of China's textile and garment can be further improved. Since China's accession to the WTO in 2001, China's exports of textile and garment products in the world have increased by more than four times, and China has become the world's largest garment producer and exporter.

According to customs data, China's cumulative textile and apparel exports in 2019 were $271.836 billion, down 1.89% year-on-year, of which the cumulative textile exports were $120.269 billion, up 0.91% year-on-year; Cumulative apparel exports amounted to $151.367 billion, down 4.00% year on year. Europe, the United States and Japan are China's main textile and apparel export countries and regions.
